Rex WOODMORE Artist Biography 2010
In my art it is the wonders of God’s amazing creation that inspire me most.
“The heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the work of His hands” Psalm 19:1

With little formal training, I consider myself to be a self taught artist. I am blessed to have my work appreciated enough to be included to the private collection of Ruth O’Neil of Waterwheel Gallery, Stuart MacDonald and his wife, Gospel singer Flora Santos and Mitchell Anderson in South Australia. Other works by me are on display and for sale at Waterwheel gallery in Bedfordale Western Australia. I have developed a strong online presence and my work can be viewed on many online galleries or simply go to Google images & key in ‘Rex Woodmore’

My paintings are on stretched canvas & I am fastidious about continuing the painting around the outside edges to make them perfectly acceptable for hanging without a frame.
My preferred medium is professional grade acrylics. I find acrylic to be extremely durable and believe that given enough time, acrylics may prove to be better than other artists' materials. On completion of my work, to protect the surface and enhance it with a more oil paint look, I use several coats of a compatible non yellowing acrylic gloss that bonds tightly with the underlying paint.

My recent works are 45x45cm, which is technically a good size for the human eye to take in. Being square and all of the same size & similar subject matter, they lend themselves well for use as individual artworks for small spaces, or can be placed together to form diptychs or triptychs and so on, or can be used like tiles to form rectangles or squares of almost any size and are particularly suitable as a colourful and interesting display along the walls of long passage ways or stairwells similar to those found in hotels. It is hard for some people overseas to grasp the beauty and the vivid colours of the Australian Outback.
The true colours of the Outback were shown in the Baz Luhrmann-directed movie “AUSTRALIA’, starring Hugh Jackman & Nicole Kidman, but when it was reviewed overseas, one critic stated that the colours were unnaturally vivid.

In my art, I attempt to capture the almost unbelievable colours of the Australian landscape.

Until my retirement in 2009 my work, in a variety of positions, had taken me over most of Western Australia. I’ve worked at a diamond mine in the Kimberley. I worked in the middle of the ocean on an Offshore Rig. I have worked in the environmental industry and collected native seeds in the Jarrah forest, propagated and planted thousands of Australian trees back into the landscape.
I travelled great distances in four wheel drive vehicles, helicopters & planes. I have searched for minerals, climbed hills, been down mine shafts, dived with sharks and explored coral reefs and ship wrecks and still I have not had my fill of the excitement and beauty of this great land.

Try as I may, I doubt I can express my passion for Australia better than the late Dorothea Mackellar did, when she wrote in her famous Australian poem: ‘My Country’

“I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of drought and flooding rains, I love her far horizons, I love her jewel sea, Her beauty and her terror - The wide brown land for me”
(By arrangement with the licensor, The Estate of Dorothea Mackellar c/- Curtis Brown (Aust) Pty Ltd)
